He is growing so fast and I've enjoyed every minute of it, well, almost. He's gone from cuddling and sleeping on my chest to squirming and kicking every chance he gets. When I lay him down he shuffles himself around in all directions. He is much more animated now too: cooing, smiling, and looking around like he's trying to figure things out. He even had his first haircut already. He rubbed so much of his hair off the back of his head that the top looked shaggy. Now it's short and sooooo handsome. I love being his mother!

The Adventures of Hairdressing
I've been attempting to do something with Ella's hair other than let it hang wildly in her face. A friend of mine suggested "training" her. Everyday place her in her booster seat and distract her with a show and/or snack.
Day 1: screaming even while combing her hair, break, gathered one side and managed to put a rubber band in-relentless screeching-so I took her to the mirror all the while exclaiming her cuteness and keeping her hands from pulling out my work. She calmed down and laughed and giggled at herself in the mirror. I managed to get the other rubber band in-i didn't know she could scream any louder. After a few moments of peace I managed to take a picture of a not so happy princess. Day 5: She didn't fight or cry about it, but mischievously ripped one side out on our way to the park leaving a lone pig tail on the side of her head.Day 10: She doesn't fight it anymore and exclaims "Cute!" whenever I finish. She loves to pick out her bows, but without fail she pulls her hair out in the car. Day 15: Still pulls out her cute hair, so I took her mirror in the car away to see if that helps. Out of sight, out of mind right? We'll see. I hope I don't give up. I want her to look presentable in public, I want her to look like I take good care of her (because I do).

Oh poop!
This morning Ella surprised me with a present NOT in her diaper. Wow, second day in a row she managed to take her diaper off, but this time she somehow kept her pj shorts on! All I could do was just shake my head and laugh so as to not dread washing her sheets and Teddy bear again. I managed to get her cleaned up just in time for story time at the library. To our surprise, the firemen were visiting today and showed off their suits, tools and truck. Ella especially liked when they lowered their ladder. They even turned on their lights and honked their horn as they drove away. Ella put up her arm (like you would pull a train whistle) and said "woo woo" as they drove away. So glad we made it in time.

Hide and Seek
Eloise, Russell and I got to spend the evening at the Fairbanks' house for some dinner and family home evening. It was great to chat with Arthur, Marina and Abin and Eloise loved playing with her cousins Miriam, Rachel, Anna and James. Ella rode the rocking horse, watch some Dora the explorer and played with balls outside. Miriam even pulled her around in the wagon. FHE was awesome. We sang some primary songs together and Abin shared a lesson about the two thousand warriors who were obedient to God's commandments with "exactness"! We discussed important commandments especially prayer and made a commitment as a group to pray every morning with exactness and to help each other remember. I mentioned how helpful it is to say our prayers out loud to make them more meaningful, and Arthur added that it is also helpful to do that when reading scriptures. For the game, we played hide and go seek in the dark. I was amazed by the hiding places that the kids came up with (in small narrow cabinets, underneath couch cushions, underneath pianos in dark corners, and even on top of the refrigerator!). When it was Ella and my turn to seek, the sun had set so it was very dark in the house. We checked under beds and in corners, in closets and under blankets. Had Abin never made a sound we would have never found him beneath the blanket covering the organ that was blocked by the crib, and likewise James and Miriam would have remained in those small cabinets forever. As we walked into one dark room, Arthur reached out and grabbed my arm causing me to HOWL as he declared himself behind the door! When I opened the bathroom door Marina and Anna popped out from behind the shower curtain with a "boo" and I subsequently shrieked like a banshee! I'm so glad my screams didn't scare Eloise and she was not fazed one bit. The night ended with cookies and milk and hugs out the door for a pleasant drive home with the companionship of Cinderella. All in all I'd have to say it was a successful night.

Did someone say monkey bars?
Eloise has been attending a mommy and me gymnastics class for three weeks now. She is a very free spirit and does not like to be told what to do, but what 21 month old does? She will sometimes walk the beam, but by far her favorite is to swing from the bars like a monkey and say "wee"! She also enjoys crawling through tunnels and climbing into the sponge pit (I can't get her to jump in yet). She's still a little wary about the trampoline and only bends her knees instead of actually jumping. Russell is such a good boy and takes a nap in his car seat while I play with Ella. It's a fun activity to look forward to each week (as long as Ella isn't teething and/or cranky like last week).
