Addendum to "When Technology is Smarter than You"

Some things I left out of the previous blog post:

Halfway through the phone call, Eloise woke up from her nap, hungry, and so I breast-fed her while talking on the phone and following the technicians commands. I'm adapting by becoming more creative with my multitasking.

Also, since I had reset my modem, I needed my att.net email address and password. I can't believe I didn't know what that was since I use it so often (not). So, the guy had to look it up for me. For security purposes I had to answer the security question... Who is your favorite actor? I'm thinking in my head "I did not set this question up, Brian did. I hope I don't get this wrong...is it Denzel Washington?" That is correct. whew. I'm so glad Brian didn't change his mind. It could have Mel Gibson and I would have been wrong making me end the call right then, call Brian and start the process all over again.

When Technology is Smarter than You

I just wasted 2 hours of my day.

Yesterday Brian informed me that the internet was not working, so today I start to troubleshoot the problem. I unplugged the modem and reset the computer. I even unplugged the modem again and pushed the reset button cause Brian said that is what he had to do last time he called AT&T to fix the internet. Unfortunately my own troubleshooting was not working.

So, I had to call AT&T. I go through all the stupid automated questions (even though I know the representative will ask me the exact same questions again when I finally get him/her on the phone) wait for 17 minutes and finally talk to someone with a very thick British-Indian accent. He is asking me what phone number is on the account...can't find the account...what is the account #...I don't know...look on your statement...I don't have access to the internet and am "going green" so I don't have a paper copy... He can't find my account so he transfers me to billing to track down my account. On hold for 2 minutes...talk to a woman who helps me track down my account number...transfers me back to tech support where the automated message says my wait will be 8 minutes. Great. I am finally connected to another gentleman with a very thick British-Indian accent and I promptly give him my account number.

Now that we know which account we are working with we can get down to business. What is the problem...my wireless internet is not working...how many lights are on the modem...4 green ones...do you have an ethernet cable? I have a gray and a yellow one which is it? use the yellow one. Plug it into the computer...ok it says I need to reset my connection... DID YOU PUSH THE RESET BUTTON ON YOUR MODEM? (In a scolding tone) yes, my husband said he had to do that last time the internet wasn't working. NEVER PUSH THE RESET BUTTON UNLESS DIRECTED TO BY TECH SUPPORT. I respond timidly..ok sorry...how do we fix the problem. He takes me through a series of steps (having some mishaps along the way including me getting ahead PLEASE WAIT FOR MY INSTRUCTIONS... and i'm finding it difficult to understand what he is saying...until finally...

YEA the internet is working...

but my wireless is not....

We go through multiple menus on the laptop for about 15-20mintues and to no avail so I finally hand over remote access to my computer to him. He fiddles around with it and asks... what kind of laptop do you have?... ASUS... there should be a button for the wireless, it looks like a fountain, can you push it?

I find the button on the side of the computer. I did not know it existed. I notice it is switched to off, I switch to on and...

It worked.

Was that it?

The wireless is working now?

Was that the problem the whole time?

I feel so silly.

Since we were probably being recorded the tech support guy was very polite and asked me to check to make sure a couple sites were working properly and after confirming that they were we ended the call.

I asked Brian if he knew that button was there and he didn't

March Cuteness

Eloise loves her new bows that a friend of mine taught me how to make.

Eloise had been growing so fast. This week she grew into her 3 month clothes...and grew out of them. I have all these cute clothes that she has never worn and now she doesn't fit into. I guess I'll just have to have another girl.

This week Eloise has been so talkative. It is amazing how she goes to sleep at night and when she wakes up she has learned something new.

It has been a struggle going to work. Not only do I have to get used to staying up all night again, but I miss Ella so much when I do. It surprised me especially how much I missed breast feeding her every 3 hours. Some people come off orientation next month and so I'm hoping that I'll be able to go to half time cause I can't keep this up much longer. (I've only done one week of 3 nights, but it was too much). I love being a mother though. It is a full time job plus endless overtime with endless love. Brian does so well with Ella while I work and I don't have to worry so much. Our partnership works out great.

Our Expert

We are still learning about Eloise, and it amazes me how much personality she already has. I have noticed a few things over the past few months about her and wanted to share a realization with ya'll.

Sometimes Eloise will be fussie while I am changing her, or will even just poop all over her clothes, sometimes before I can even get them on her. I thought it was because she enjoyed the freedom of not being restrained by a diaper, but I think there may be another reason, which I am now beginning to understand. Ella is a fashion expert. A few examples will illustrate this

1. She loves clothes. If Ella gets fussy I will take her into our closet and she will stop fussing and stare at Aslinn's clothes. There isn't much which will stop her fussy fits (which are few and far between, she is such a great baby), but Aslinn's clothes do.

2. She seems to enjoy watching "What Not To Wear" with Aslinn.

3. She has started grabbing onto our clothes. This may be because she is trying to get a better look at them, really enjoys the material, or is critical of my fashion sense and trying to tell me to "get rid of this!"

All of this has led me to realize that Eloise is defiling her clothes because I have not picked out clothes that she wanted to wear. Probably because they don't go together. Silly dad!

This picture also makes me think that I will be in trouble in a few years.

I can already picture her saying "Daddy, can I have a bajillion dollars to go to the store? Thanks!"

Eloise Smiling

This is probably one of the cutest things you will ever see, at least until Eloise does another cute thing!
